We were successful in Kansas in filing HCR5010 in the Kansas House of Representatives with 42 co-sponsors. The resolution made it out of the House Federal and States Affairs Committee and was sent to the floor for consideration. We saw broad support from Topeka with roughly 80 Representatives committing to support a vote on the floor. We were ready to bring a vote when the budget battles engulfed the legislature. This legislation remains active for 2016 and will start the year ready for a vote in the House.
In the Kansas Senate, we successfully introduced SCR1603 with 14 co-sponsors. The Senate Federal and State Affairs Committee held a hearing in March, but never voted on it this year. It remains in committee and ready for their action when the Senate comes back in January.
It is critical that you contact your state legislators (House and Senate) and ask their position on this legislation. Make sure you ask them to support the Convention of States application in their respective legislative body. Your first step in this process is to sign our petition, this will automatically generate an email to your legislator informing them you are on board.
